About Us:

The Women in Literacy and Life Assembly strives to improve the teaching of English language arts by focusing attention on gender-related issues in literacy teaching and learning, including the status and image of women and girls, men, and boys and to advise the profession at large on issues relating to the role and images of women; and to foster the exchange of ideas and perspectives among people interested in gender issues relating to English. WILLA is an official Assembly of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), functioning as a membership group in which like-minded people are able to meet, discuss, theorize, and socialize under the auspices of their shared interests. WILLA has a yearly presence at the NCTE annual conference, hosting sessions which are focused around issues regarding gender in the English and Language Arts classroom. Members of WILLA receive the newsletter Crosscurrents and the journal WILLA annually. For more information, you may contact WILLA directly or check out our Contact Page. Your inquiry will be forwarded on through the appropriate channels.
